LOONIENEWS EXCLUSIVE

GIBSON REVEALS REASON
FOR HIS PASSION
God conceived movie to test
waters for return of Jesus

Movie hits $300-million mark,
sets new box office record

HOLLYWOOD/BETHLEHEM • In a surprise admission, director Mel Gibson has revealed the true reason behind the making of his movie The Passion of the Christ. In an exclusive interview, Gibson spoke with Loonienews on the set of his upcoming movie, Lethal Weapon 6:

LN: So, if I understand you correctly, you’re saying GOD himself came to you and asked you to make this movie?

MG: Yes, that’s right.

LN: And He told you He did this to test the waters for a return of His Son, Jesus Christ?

MG: Yes, it is true. He told me — well, actually, it was His messenger, the archangel Gabriel — GOD doesn’t take many meetings Himself. Anway, He told me to wait until it was clear the world was ready for the return of Jesus — or, as we affectionately called him on set, The Man.

LN: And did God tell you to wait for a particular sign?

MG: Well, yeah. We had been sitting on pins and needles waiting and hoping we could hit the $300-million mark so we could green-light the next phase of the project. You, know, tell GOD it was a go for Jesus to come back.

LN: So GOD, in his infinite wisdom, chose you to make this movie as a testing ground to see if the world was ready for a return visit of Jesus?

MG: Well, I guess my movies are a real big hit up there. And with my devotion to my family, despite the constant temptation to sin — I do live in Hollywood, you know — GOD felt I was the right person to lead His test-marketing program.

LN: And did He tell you when this, the return of Jesus, is going to happen?

MG: Well, no, He didn’t. Not exactly. I mean, I’m just the director. He’s the producer. Well, executive producer, really. And, you know, it’s true what they say — GOD does move in mysterious ways. But I’m sure He’s got it all planned out. I mean, you think producing all three parts of The Lord of the Rings was a logistical marvel. That’s nothing compared to this.

LN: So you’re saying there’s going to be a sequel?

MG: Oh, definitely. That’s the Word, anyway. But look — speaking of sequels — sorry to rush you, but I’ve gotta get back to work for Lethal 6. We’re shooting the scene where Murtaugh and Riggs go over the Falls in a barrel...

RESURRECTION FLICKS
BATTLE AT BOX OFFICE

Devil counters Passion
with own horror film

HOLLYWOOD • Director Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ contiues its reign of glory at the box office, with receipts topping $300-million (US). Along the way, the biblical epic has endured criticism from parents’ groups that call it too violent, from historians who say it’s inaccurate and from Jewish groups who accuse it of anti-Semitism.

And now Gibson’s controversial film faces its greatest challenge of all — a film produced by the Devil himself. Sources close to Satan (in Hollywood, those are easy to find) say the Prince of Darkness is the producer behind the new horror film Dawn of the Dead. Insiders say Lucifer’s name doesn’t appear on the credits — but then, it rarely does.

But a spokesman for the Beelzebub says Dawn of the Dead is clearly the spawn of Satan. “It’s got his mark all over it,” the source said. “I mean, zombies coming back from the dead and eating people? He loves that sh--.”

The source said Satan created the movie specifically to counter the success of Gibson’s “overblown and sanctimonious” film about Jesus, saying “Old Nick just wants to tell his side of the story — you know?”

Hollywood observers pointed to the strikingly similar themes of the two movies. “It’s like Armageddon and Sudden Impact, those two movies about meteors. Or all those kid-in-an-adult-body flicks. Studios are always copying each other,” one critic said. “This time, we have two movies about people coming back from the dead and eating flesh and blood of the victims."

“Zombies, saviors -- it’s all the same thing.”

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

NEWS BRIEFS

MARTHA STEWART ADMITS
LAWYER FAILED TO FOLLOW RECIPE

NEW YORK • Martha Stewart admitted for the first time today that her lawyer miscalculated her defence in portraying her as an honest and hard-working celebrity.
That was ”a good thing,” Stewart said, but not good enough. The lawyer, she said, definitely should have added even more sugar and spice to her defence.

BELINDA STRONAUCH TO TAKE OVER MARTHA STEWART'S EMPIRE
TORONTO -- Failed Conservative leadership candidate Belinda Stronach acknowledged she will be taking over for fallen celebrity homemaker Martha Stewart this spring. Stronach excitingly told Loonienews that for her first TV episode, she will bake “a bigger economic pie.” She is also set to launch her spring clothing line for the fashionable female politician, aptly named: “White is the New White.”

GAGLIANO JOINS RADWANSKI
IN TAX-WASTE LEXICON

OTTAWA • The Coalition Against Tax Paying Overdose in Ottawa, a group that monitors fiscal waste and mismanagement by federal politicians, said it has added the term “Gagliano” to its lexicon of terms for government overspending.
The term is named for fired Public Works minister Alfonso Gagliano, who is mired in the current scandal over sponsorship bribes.
CATPOO, a watchdog group, said the “Gagliano” will represent tax waste in units of $100-million. So a federal scam or boondoggle of, say, $300-million, would cost three Gaglianos. The Gagliano joins an earlier coalition term, the Radwanski, worth roughly
$500,000.
